The Champions League had never experienced a round of 16 week as the one we just witnessed. There were plenty of emotions started by the two goals headed by Sergio Ramos that qualified Real Madrid for the quarterfinals. Anyway, nothing can be compared with FC Barcelona’s amazing comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, the largest in European soccer history as no team had made it to the following round after losing 4-0 the first-leg game.

Despite being over 50, I can say I have never seen a team play a more beautiful soccer style than FC Barcelona in the 2010-2011 season. Managed by Pep Guardiola, that squad took to perfection a horizontal passing game that was named by the late sports announcer Andrés Montes as “tiki-taka”. As an ice hockey team, Barça put its opponents in their defensive zone, incorporating men little by little, passing and passing and passing again the ball.

 01/27/2017 - 07:30

Very few thought Sevilla could improve the great achievements of the last years in which the club from Andalusia won three Europe League championships in a row (2014, 2015 and 2016) under head coach Unai Emery, setting a milestone in the history of European soccer. Anyhow and despite many successes, Emery was never able to take Sevilla ahead of the groups’ round in the Champions League and could not get the club amongst the top three in Spain’s La Liga either.
